Ga Rei Zero – Full Review
Posted by Tallon in Anime (General), Full Reviews on July 30, 2010

Before I start with the review, let’s just get this out of the way. This show has probably THE BEST first episode in any anime or tv show or anything else. I’ll get to how I feel about the show as a whole, but just speaking about the first episode alone – it was amazingly well done and directed and the most awesome first episode of anything that I know of. This alone is worth watching the show for – or at least watching the first episode for. Though be warned, don’t go searching stuff about this show or you might ruin the awesome of this episode. Just go watch it if you haven’t.
Since finishing Kyouran Kazoku Nikki which I thought was completely excellent I’ve continued a good stride of apparently watching every awesome show I hadn’t watched in the past because I either never heard of it or thought it would be extremely mediocre at best. I had no intention of watching great shows, actually all these shows I’ve gone into expecting them to be shit. But surprisingly, only the opposite has happened;
As A Most Wonderful Fact, This Review Is Of Kyouran Kazoku Nikki

Or “As a most wonderful fact, I, Tallon, have written a review of Kyouran Kazoku Nikki” but that’s way too long for a title.
So following up with the horrible disappointment that was Durarara, I finished up Kyouran Kazoku Nikki and got the exact opposite. Now I’m, as usual, behind on reviewing this, and in this case I had actually never seen this – when it first came out I meant to watch but I kept forgetting the name and never got around to it because of that. So finally I just got a full torrent and have been watching a few episodes every day and finally just marathoned the last 5 today.
I wasn’t sure what to expect other than a fun silly type show that I always for some reason figured would be pretty good, and it definitely was those things. But ‘pretty good’ doesn’t really do it justice as it was probably one of the better shows I’ve ever seen – and I’ve seen a lot so at least for me that says a lot.

I’m sick so here’s my quick review before I can write a real one.
I finally watched it.
It’s shit.
Complete shit.
The end.
Gunslinger Girl Il Teatrino Review

Another late review, but this time some of the fault isn’t mine, the fansubbers hadn’t ever finished (back when it was airing at least, maybe now they have) due to the licensing of the show and whatnot so I never got past episode like 6. However, the blu-ray of the full series recently came up for sale so I was able to finish watching it all. Imageshack is being shitty so if the pics don’t load oh well.

First off to get it out of the way – yes, the art is very bland, boring, and flat, so much so its not even ‘generic’ as in its so flat and ‘meh’ that it is very unique in a way. It’s also VERY undetailed (especially compared to the great detail given in the first season – which by the way had really nice art and a great style to it), and has some horrible stuff like the cars…they literally in all seriousness look like a child’s drawing at times. Boxes with circles…random sizes at times, horrible perspective, etc. It’s pretty awful at times. But hell, it’s still lolis with guns killing people.
Bokura ga Ita – Mizuguchi was there too.

I watched this back when it came out, forgot about it, and never finished it. Then I recently got the first few volumes as a gift and remembered about it, and somehow the last volume I had to read was at the same exact point I had forgotten to keep watching at, which was pretty convenient. And because I post no more pics of him, above is Yano with Takahashi.
Slayers Revolution

So this is a bit backwards – as I havn’t gotten around to writing that review of the first 3 Seasons of Slayers – but I wanted to get this out of the way and it’s relevant to current issues in my internetting.
For a short synopsis – the story this season is basically about two furfags randomly being thrown into the show, an inspector, and a whole town of people who fulfilled their Focus and became crystal. Well no, Rezo did that, but at least tying it into FFXIII somehow is a better joke than most of what you’ll find in this series. Funny how the real synopsis is something about finding Gourry a sword – yet the entire time they never do and instead of being part of the plot it’s just a shitty overdone gag after the first episode that they use almost 4-10 times per episode. “haha my sword broke” “haha my sword broke” “haha my sword broke”
Also – I do realize this is basically the first half of a season – but my review still stands.
To make matters worse – the place I stole the two eyecatch images from called Lina “Rina”, Zelgadis “Zelgadiss” and Seyruun “Sayluun”. Stupid motherfuckers. Rina Inverse? Come the fuck on. What’s next, she uses a Dlagon Srave and gagger bert? I hate anime fans.
Summer Wars Review

I was excited to watch this because it was directed by the same director who threw together Tokikake, while being very loosely based on the novel, from practically scratch. Tokikake being pretty much my favorite anime and film both got me pretty interested in what this guy was going to do next.
Well, I was pretty disappointed.
